11th Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi-Harmann Kallenbach monument

The 11th anniversary celebrations of the monument for Mahatma Gandhi and Harmann Kallenbach were held in Rusnė, Šilutė district on 18 July.
Ambassador Mr Devesh Uttam joined the ceremony and paid floral tributes along with the Mayor of Šilutė District Mr Vytautas Laurinaitis, Ambassador of Lithuania to India Ms Diana Mickevičienė and other dignitaries. The annual event is a testimony to the people-to-people ties between India and Lithuania.
During the celebrations, the “India-Lithuania Friendship Award” was conferred upon Ms Natasha Fernandes, Museum of Christian Art Old Goa for significant contribution in fostering cultural ties between Lithuania and India. The award was presented by Rusnė Elder Ms Dalia Drobniene and Community Chairman Mr Saulius Bukantas
The event concluded with an evening of music, poetry, culture, and culinary traditions including reading of poems of Lithuanian poet Mr Eugenijus Alishanka in Lithuanian and Hindi, and a beautiful musical performance by Ms Sangita Mitra, whose melodious rendition of popular Lithuanian songs enthralled the audience.
